CRFG 320D Troubleshooting
Fiji 2013
Invited by Caterpillar APD, dealership Carptrac, ECIM, customer China Railway First Group(CRFG), I was designated by GCI China to go to Fiji with one of Caterpillar Certified Hex Masters from ECIM selected by me to do the troubleshooting.
One unit of 320D suffered non-start for months. The local dealership Carptrac handled the case from time to time and replaced whatever they could, except the whole set of C6.6 engine, and failed which had caused very strong complaint from the customer and requested selling dealer, ECIM China, to do the troubleshooting. We detected the problem of mistiming and made the right timing to recover the machine in just a couple of hours after our arrival and the machine was in sound condition.

China Wuyi - Caterpillar Product Service Training

This Caterpillar product knowledge and service training aims to improve using correctly caterpillar machines with various training methods to enhance the understanding of the knowledge learned, to ensure that the service mechanics can carry out daily fault diagnosis and troubleshooting. The service training has three characteristics.
One is technical and service-oriented. The training is mainly based on caterpillar machines' technology, of which 60% for in-house training and 40% for hands-on training with the training materials and students' handouts used sourced and originated from Caterpillar official website and dealerships' service training materials which has shown the Caterpillar machine system operation, system testing, adjusting, fault analysis and troubleshooting guidance with the value of reference and studying.
Second, combined theory with practice with the basic system operation ,technical theoretical explanation and the cases sharing and study, mainly the engine , hydraulic , electronical system operation, system testing , adjusting and troubleshooting for 320D2/330D2L/336D2/140K and Caterpillar Hydraulic Hammer B20/B30 purchased by Wuyi, China and the use of Caterpillar ET diagnostic tool were focused as well.
Third, the interaction effect is involved from the beginning to the end. Dennis Yu, main service training instructor and technical expert, has long been engaged in the research of difficult faults of Caterpillar machines with a rich experience of caterpillar product knowledge and troubleshooting skills. His involving- me-teaching-style has made his training very effective and impressive with every participant involved in person for the topics discussion and hands-on participation and involvement. The professional ,Impressive and effective training with fruitful results.

Engine Hard Start in High Altitude
2003 - 2011
325C( C7 engine) started up in 8 seconds in normal crack speed with Ether aids and newly developed engine ECIM flash file ( Version 25) At altitude of 5231 m with ambient temp. 6 c minus. In Tangula mountain , Tibet in 2003. I am the first technical rep. to have observed hard start for all kinds of caterpillar engines and organized 15 times of customer/field visit and tested machines with convinced test data and market situation to appeal to the functional engineers and organizations to pay a special attention to this problem with my suggested ways for air-fuel ratio software for engine ECMs. For C9 engine, test software was updated for 25 times with 25th version to start up. Then I also took part in field test for the CR and new engines for times since 2011 and now high altitude start-up problem for the Caterpillar engines has been resolved.
Organized field test for times and years with my feasible suggestions based on filed test data to appeal functional business units for support and eventually succeeded.

Saudi Arabia 2020
On May 31st, 2020, a customer in Saudi Arabia experienced a break down on a 320GC. This happened in a blasting area inside the tunnel blocking its access. All implements were disabled suddenly and unexpectedly which was extremely dangerous considering the machine's location.
Being a military project, local dealer was not allowed to visit the customer on the jobsite and due to language barriers, Dennis Yu (Technical Advisor) had to assist the customer remotely. This generated a 5 hour communication, via WeChat, due to lack of analysis and technical details as well as the audio and video being prohibited in the UAE. As a result, Denis was able to provide technical analysis, written instructions along with explanatory drawings for root cause analysis successfully solving the customer's problem.
The machine was finally moved out of the tunnel, which kept the whole project running smoothly forward without further delays.The remote diagnosis from Dennis Yu efficiently shortened the service response time for the trouble shooting. This is a good example of a quick solution in an emergency situation, bringing forward the customers needs and providing an excellent support.
